CableIQ Qualification Tester

"In the Broadcast Centre at BCIT our video editors edit their Projects directly off our SAN. It's necessary that we ensure a GiGe connection between our clients and our Servers. Since we install and maintain our own systems the Fluke Networks CableI/Q Qualification Tester has been a very important part of our tool-kit as Broadcast Engineers. It has, on a number of occasions helped us locate, identify and resolve network problems relating to our cabling & connectors. We've also used it to qualify pre-made cables and to qualify completed systems. It provides a level of security and system integrity that gives us peace of mind. If there's a problem related to network speed and bandwidth, we can quickly verify our cabling & connectors and eliminate them as a potential source of any problems. Without it we'd be flying by the seat of our pants not really being able to have confidence in our system connectivity. " - Ron Kellington, Chief Engineer at British Columbia Institute of Technology

"I was called in for a service call to discover the issues with an existing data cable that was not operating properly. Another company had installed the cabling. I verified the cable was patched into a gigabit switch, used the blink port option and found the cable to be mislabelled using the Cable IQ. I then tested the cat 6 cable to verify gigabit connectity and found the jack to be miswired. I reterminated the cable and had the computer outlet working with in 5 minutes. Quick and simple." - Tyler Friesen, Owner/Technician at Friesen DataCom

"Not only do we use the Cable IQ for qualifaction and documentation, but it has saved plenty of time in troubleshooting networks. In one case it took about 5 minutes to find and locate missing patch panel connection that wasn't labeled, this might have taken 30 minutes to an hours otherwise. In another case, it detected a crossed punched down pair, and even told me what pair was punched down incorretly, again reducing troubleshooting and fixing time to a fraction of tracing the issue down any other way. When the Cable IQ reports the connections/wiring are good, we know we can count on it!" - Tim Leed, Leed Custom Design

"Wireless Bridges: We use the Cable IQ Tester to verify the wiring from the power injector all the way up a 150' tower to the wireless bridge. The bridge may not be a standard switch or device termination, but comparing a good bridge (with a known good cable, confirmed with Cable IQ!), we can check the state of the bridge and wiring without climbing a tower. The bridges typically use PoE injectors on the unused pairs of Cat5 and the Cable IQ lets us check all 4 power wires for continuity. If one of the 4 wires is open, the bridge will start to act erratically when the heater (and current draw) kicks in. This has saved us time, many climbs and now have confidence that the installation is OK, it must be the configuration! " - Scott Curell, City of Winnipeg

"I was called to troubleshoot the network connection between a POS and a switch located under the cash wrap about 30 ft apart. I was told by their NOC that the switch has been replaced recently and the POS keeps dropping off the network. I put the remote from the Cable IQ-100 on one end and the Tester on the other end and it showed the wire map of the CAT5 cable were correct. I put the IQ-100 in autotest and discovered the CAT5 run only qualyfies for 10 MBit speed, I then put the IQ-100 in DIAG mode and ran crosstalk test resulting in induced crosstalk between pair 12 and 56 and between 12 and 34. I took out the wall plate with the CAT5 jack, it looked like a really old one from back in the days, I replaced it with a CAT5e keystone and ran the autotest again with my IQ-100 and voila the drop is now qualified for 10,100,1000 and VoIP. I luve my Fluke Networks Cable IQ-100. " - Erwin Niehaus, VP at IT Support

"Before we purchased the CableIQ tester the challenges as a network administrator we great. Tracing wires was virtually impossible. Now I have time to complete entries for free t-shirts. Actually I don't but I do now have more time to pursue other projects. It is a good product that makes networking a whole lot easier. " - Dave Filanowski, ABC Group Inc.

"I work in the machine building industry on large heat treating furnace lines. I use the Fluke Networks CableIQ Qualification Tester to check and verify all ethernet connections before the equipment is passed on to the customer. This tool has been invaluable in finding faults." - Stuart Balan, SBE.

"We use our CableIQ Qualification tester almost daily. Our main use is for cable qualification but it also comes in handy for troubleshooting. We have used it multiple times to find breaks in cables and other network problems. It has also helped with Interference issues. " - Jeff Peck, Network Specialist at Intralinks, Inc.

"I had sporadic and unusual customer calls that would crop up every few months on a particular link. After reviewing my case logs for several months I started to notice that this link seemed to have issues more often than other links. There were reports of packet loss and other transient symptoms. In a moment of down-time I was able to bring my Fluke Tester down to the link in question and it passed the first two times I ran the test, but it failed on the third. Problem isolated, cable replaced. Thanks Fluke Networks! " - Eric Pulvino, Cisco Systems.

"This is the most versatile tester we have in use. Due to a high churn rate within the agency we often are left with unlabelled outlets after rebuilds. On one particular occassion we had both old and new oulets in the same office not labelled. By using the tone sender we identifed the older set of outlets location within the FD rack and also identified the newest set of outlets had not been terminated to the CP." - Rob Tutt, DEEWR.

"We use the Fluke product to test all cables when running new ethernet lines and also for troubleshooting on existing network runs." - John Stairs, Network Technician at Remington Arms Company.

"We have a large fleet of mobile recover vehicles that have a CAT5/ VoIP infrastructure. This tester has saved the day multiple times by being able certify that the cabling isn't the problem and force the vendor to look at their equipment." - Chris Day, Rentsys Recovery.

"'ve been in the engineering and engineering education fields for most of my life, and Fluke Networks equipment has always been the benchmark of quality for all but the most exotic equipment. I have bought lesser equipment when my needs or my budget were limited. None of my Fluke Networks equipment has ever failed me. This purchase was at the lowest price on the web. The shipping was immediate (two days from order to delivery!), and the item was (and is) perfect! For certification of data over copper, the Fluke Netowrks CableIQ is the best in its price class." - Matt Howell, CEO/President/General Manager/Chairman at Howell Inc.

"Our primary line of business is supporting servers and the infrastructure connecting these to the PC's for small businesses, 1-100 PC's. More than one half of our client base is a result of using Fluke Networks tools to locate performance and connectivity issues for new clients who's existing support service could not pinpoint. By gaining customer confidence in doing so, most often we retain the client as one more network to manage. In short Fluke Networks tools are effectively responsible for more than half of our long term revenue. " - Rob Williams, Owner at LAN-Tech Network Management.

"When XZact Technologies started 7 years ago, our testers were re-furbished Agilent Wirescopes because they were cheap. We lost countless hours testing and sending them in for repair. We could not be competitive with our bids if we were to put the actual testing time it took with those pieces of junk! Those testers were a hinderance, not a tool. Many times we just gave up and used Mod Tap's. As our business grew, we were able to buy a couple of DTX-1800's and what a difference. Our technicians flat out refused to use the Agilent and would fight over using the Flukes! We now have eight of them and several Cable IQ's. We will be ordering an OFP-100-QI in the next few weeks. We are now a 100% Fluke Networks shop!" - Sally Garver, Sr. Project Coordinator at XZact Technologies

"I have worked in two locations, within the same company, and have spent about 23 years working in the I.T. field. The first real piece of test equipment I purchased was the DSP-100. I've gone through two batteries and one charger but I can still count on it to tell me if I am on the edge of the Ethernet range or if I can still get my cables terminated correctly. I think that it works as hard as I do, well, maybe even harder. :-) " - John Gutfreund, Methanex Corporation.

"I'm a computer network engineer by profession and a communications technician by trade. These two skill sets go hand in hand. Communications systems from the cable up are my responsibility and when I use my DSP I trust it to tell me what's going on. "The saying you get what you pay for! It is always true with Fluke Networks products, I have tried buying a cheap cable analyse in the past and just get frustrated and annoyed with the outcome, I have tried software on laptops for investigating wireless problems to no avail, so I invested in the LRAT 1000 and the AirCheck kit, and after spending a week trying to resolve a wi-fi problem, I found the fault in less than 5 mins using the AirCheck, the new LRAT 1000 helped me find a cable that had been chewed through on a duct and gave me the measurement to the fault with 10cm of its position. And the DTX-1800 tests all my Cat5e, Cat6 and Fibre installs without any problems, I don't entertain any other make of test equipment and have learned to buy the quality product first time. Keep up the good work fFuke Networks!" - Mark Nicholson, CEO/President/General Manager/Chairman at MJN Technical Services Ltd.

"Spend my day tracing cables and repairing them. Been doing it for over 9 years at my current company. Majority of the breaks come from the Operating Room due to the fact that devices need to be moved and jacks get damaged. Without the Intellitone Pro I would be on a wild goose chase, with it, I am able to get devices up and running with in the hour. "- William Borgeson, Montefiore Medical Center

"I've been dealing with telco and network wires for over two decades. My current gigs involve showing up on a site with a network problem and getting it fixed quickly. Mostly retail stuff where the POS or credit card system is down, in other words, they are not making money. I've had the 200 for about 8 months now and it has proven its worth over and over again. I often show up at a site that I've never seen before, and let me tell you, retail installs can be really ugly. Sometimes just finding the switch or router on a site can be a challenge because the staff doesn't have a clue. This probe will find wires in walls but also show you which one in a bundle you're holding in your hand is the one you're looking for (you have to use it to understand.) The connection tester will show you what wires are missing or in the wrong position if you listen to it well, EVEN IF THERE IS ONLY ONE WIRE CONNECTED! This is a complicated but intuitive device, so intuitive that there really isn't much of a manual.. you just have to work with it for a while. Like a rather odd co-worker that is skilled but a bit strange, you'll come to love it. The guys and gals in Everett really understood what us field guys go through and need in a "toner". If you deal with CAT5 or RJ45 wiring on a regular basis, you want this. If you have a job where you show up and have to figure where a wire goes, you NEED this. I've used every toner out there (the blue Fluke beats Progressive to shame) and can do amazing tricks with them. This damn little setup is the best thing that I've ever found. I just wish that they made it 20 years ago." - Abel Magwitch, Cissyx

"The intelliTone Pro has time and again proven to be an invaluable tool for our Datacom technicians in the field. Whether its used for tracing out network cables or performing basic wire map tests on the fly; it's proven to be a very valuable tool for our company. The fact that the Intellitone Pro offers very precise tracing capabilities even on active network cables is an added bonus. Keep up the good work Fluke Networks." - Greg Barwinski, Owner/President at Voltcom Inc

"I bought this myself many years ago, and it comes out of my tool box about once a month. My company has an old non-standard building with questionable wiring I'm always looking for a bad wire in the ceiling, in the wall, or at the punchdown block and the Fluke Networks tester never fails me, I wouldn't even consider another brand Fluke Networks = Network tools. I asked my boss to buy us the OptiView XG, he offered to get us some offbrand copy, but I refused I said it would be better to wait until we had the budget and buy the right tool." - Thomas Cudd, IT Staff at Charles River Associates

"We use the IntellitTone Pro Toner and Probe to trace wires for both analog and digital circuits. This product is especially usefull since it allows us to use it on cable with live data." - Ryan Richards, US COURTS, Probation and Pretrial

MicroScanner² Cable Verifier

"When I first started my own network consulting and services company over 5 years ago, I knew there were a coupe of pieces of test equipment that I would need. I literally sweated each and every purchasing decision. One of the items was the MicroScanner kit. Do I buy the kit with the toner, or should I purchase a lower end product at Home Depot. I did end up buying the MicroScanner. I have since used it so many times to quickly trouble shoot so many problems with my customers. I look back at how much I sweated the original decision and I have to laugh." - Donald Jones, CEO/President/General Manager/Chairman at DONALD M JONES LLC

"I had received a call from our returns department that a computer and label printer had lost connection on the network. Once I had gotten to the station, I noticed that there were no link lights blinking on the computer NIC and printer. I grabbed my MicroScanner2 and connected it to the data line running to the computer first and it was showing a connection back to the switch but no link speed. Next I tested the printers connection and got the same results. I traced the 2 lines back to the switch and connect to another port on the switch and immediatly got a connection. Using the MicroScanner2 helped me rule out that there was an issue with the data cable and narrowed the issue down to the switch. Buying the MicroScanner2 from Fluke Networks has been one of the best investments that I have made because It has saved me some much time in my day to day responsabilites at work." - Grandy Jackson, Network Technician at ShopNBC

"I work in many of the Shopping Malls in the Pacific Northwest. Never have I found a more cut and spliced together network environment than a Mall. The MicroScanner Cable Verifier shows me the pair that has been cut and gives me the distance to that cut so I can go repare that copper line. Saves me hours every time I use it. It is part of any standard field kit I have." - Jacob Loeb, CIO/CTO/VP of IT at Computer Stores NW

"We have a somewhat unusual situation. My wife and I are building our dream home in Florida. We are both tech savvy and want our home to be energy efficient and wired for remote control of all of the home systems. Our builder is very flexible and has allowed us to run our own low voltage wiring. My wife and I ran 7,000 feet of Cat6, 2,000 feet of Cat5e and several thousand more feet of other low voltage wiring. The Cat6 wiring will be for our computer network and peripheral devices. The Cat5e is for voice, IR extenders, and window blind control. We also have wiring for RGB LED lighting. We use our Fluke Networks products (MicroScanner2 with IntelliTone Pro 200 Probe and 289 Multimeter) to ensure our structured wiring is intact and has not been compromised by any of the subcontractor work. The Fluke Networks systems are easy to use, reliable, and perform flawlessly. Sometime we just look for something to do so we can use our MicroScanner or Multimeter. Last year we were featured in BetterRVing Magazine for rewiring our RV motorhome for computer networking and surround sound. We ran over 750 feet of Cat6 in the RV for our network with 8 computers. The project would not have been possible without the MicroScanner. See the article at: http://betterrving.com/Article/RV_Living/Wired_for_the_Road" - Gerhard Sammet, Network Engineer/Analyst/Consultant

"Starting in the early 80's I worked for Tele-resources in upstate N.Y. which manufactured PBX switching equipment, then I worked for TEL-PLUS communications as a FIELD TECH. I used a lot of different Fluke Networks test equipment, both on premise wiring installation and diagnostic problems. Now I work for the NY THRUWAY Authority also a FIELD TECH, working with COAX, CAT5, CAT6, glass and plastic FIBER OPTICS. I mainly using a Microscanner2 test kit, good old trusty multimeter, and we have a older model of the DTX / CERT test set." - Rick Mead, NYS Thruway Authority

"The Fluke MicroScanner2 cable verifier is a terrific network cabling diagostic tool. I went from a no-name brand "which pins are connected" tool to this beauty. It not only tells you which pins are connected, and how long the cable is ... if there's an issue with the cable, it tells you the issue (open or short) and how far down the cable the issue occurs. It is also a tone generator. It works with Cat3, Cat5, Cat6, and coax and tests up to 1000 MHz. I won't go to a cabling job without this handy gadget. I got it from Amazon.com at a great price ... I received it quickly and without issue." - Perry J, Homeville

Pro3000™ Analog Tone and Probe

"I use this product in an industrial environment to trace control circuits of machinery and equipment, most of which does not have a circuit print or circuit log. It is an invaluable aid for this purpose. The advantage it gives, over conventional continuity testers, is: 1) the ability to trace a circuit through one of several conduits so I don't end up opening 10 different junction boxes to find out if the circuit I'm looking for is in here. 2) I can trace circuits without assistance, and usually faster than using conventional methods with two people. 3) I was able to locate a severed conductor inside the conduit run. The only disadvantage I have found with this tool; it gets lonley in the tool box and goes looking for human attention, therefore when I go to get it I have to search and usually find it in the hands of one of the other five technicians in our facility." - JOHN PENA, JPCOMPUSOLUTIONS
